The International Institute for Monetary Transformation (IIMT) is an international collective of social scientists that was started in New York City in response to the financial crisis of 2007-8. The originator and coordinator of the IIMT was and is Frans C. Verhagen, M.Div., M.I.A., PhD., a sustainability sociologist of international development who has been fighting to transform the unjust, unsustainable, and therefore, unstable international monetary system. 

Frans worked as a missionary priest of the Dutch province of the Society of African Missions in Ghana in the sixties, studied international affairs and development at Columbia University in the seventies, taught at various institutions in the New York Metro area in the eighties and nineties while being fully engaged in the battle against global heating. He became fully engaged in monetary economics at the beginning of the 21st century, publishing in 2012 “The Tierra Solution: Resolving the Climate Crisis through Monetary Transformation” after four years of study, reflection, and activities around the UN Headquarters where he, among other things, was the advisor on African affairs to the Permanent Observer of the Holy See. During the pandemic, he wrote over one hundred comments to articles in magazines, and newspapers, particularly the New York Times, the Guardian, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal applying the monetary transformation paradigm. Its Home page presents the unique TTRIMS DECLARATION to COP 28 as a realistic “just transition pathway” to a transformed world economy. Both websites were created to advance the TTRIMS monetary sustainability framework before the publication of the 2024 sequel to the 2012 book. Both the two websites and their enlarged presentation in book form are the result of a tricultural/cosmopolitan life as a global change agent both as a scholar and activist. He believes that orthopraxis in service to others leads to orthodoxy.
